Position Opening: Head of Youth & Teen Services

Exciting things are happening at Plainfield Public Library! The Library has just kicked off a rebranding plan with our new name: Plainfield Area Public Library and we are about to embark upon a new adventure renovating and expanding our building. We are seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic Head of Youth and Teen Services to join our team at this exciting juncture! 

The Head of Youth and Teen Services is a key member of the Library’s leadership team and is responsible for planning, developing, implementing and evaluating all department operations, internal and external services and programs and collections for children from infancy through high school, in accordance with the Library’s mission, strategic plan and goals. 

This position requires the use of professional skills, initiative, and independent judgment and will collaborate closely with both employees and Library leadership in order to develop a collaborative and resilient team. 

As a Department Head, this position serves as a PIC (Person in Charge) for the Library and works at least one evening per week, rotating Saturdays, and daytime hours. 

Requirements include:  a Master’s Degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited institution, five years or more of professional experience in a library or related field, and three years’ experience in a leadership role that includes supervision along with knowledge of delegation, scheduling, performance evaluations, and building and maintaining morale.

Strongly Desired: Prior experience leading through an expansion, renovation or significant organizational change.  

This is a full time position and includes a comprehensive benefits package.  Hiring salary range is between $60,000 and $68,000, depending on qualifications and education.

Located in the southwest suburbs and bordered by Naperville and Joliet, the Plainfield Area Public Library serves over 75,000 people across five different communities in growing northern Will County.

Position Opening: Communications Coordinator

The Plainfield Public Library District is seeking a self-starter with a passion for marketing and graphic design to serve in the newly expanded position of Communications Coordinator as we embark on several exciting endeavors, including a rebranding plan with our new name, Plainfield Area Public Library, and a full renovation and expansion of our building. This position supports the Library’s marketing efforts by generating content and promotional materials for print, web and social media outlets while adhering to the Library’s brand guidelines, strategic plan, mission and goals.

 You will work closely with the Head of Community Engagement and Marketing to develop and implement marketing and brand strategies that will increase the community’s awareness of library services and programs while promoting the Library as a vibrant community resource. Responsibilities include:

  • Developing and designing the quarterly print newsletter and all publicity materials. 
  • Creating innovative and engaging social media content.
  • Representing the Library publicly at professional, educational and community events
  • Maintaining relationships with community organizations

Requirements include:

  • At least two years completed at a higher education institution
  • At least two years of relevant experience.
  • The ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.
  • Knowledge of Canva is a plus.
  • Understanding of current social media, marketing and design trends

This is a full-time position and includes a comprehensive benefits package. Hiring salary is between $20.78 and $22.37 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience.
